This course follows Alberta Education standards for 6th grade social studies.
The student will will examine the roots of democracy in Ancient Greece and the Iroquois Confederacy to better understand their influences on Canada’s democratic system . They will also develop an understanding of how Alberta’s local and provincial governments are formed, how the rights of Albertans are protected and how democracy allows people to influence change in their communities. Finally, the students will learn about ancient Rome. They will learn about the daily life of Romans, the culture of the time, and the fall of Rome.
